First TN Regional Conference

The Arc TN Family Engagement in Special Education and Washington County Schools are hosting a regional resource fair and mini conference to support families of students with disabilities. The event will feature community organizations as well as breakout sessions on conservatorship, transition services, and more. Snacks will be provided.

Breakout Sessions:

12:00 Dr. Melody Blevins, Access ETSU

TOPICAccess to Opportunity: College, Career, and Beyond:  Explore postsecondary options after high school, including college, technical programs, vocational rehabilitation, the military, and employment, as well as diploma requirements, how to access disability services, and how students can advocate for themselves, including understanding Section 504 and FERPA rights. Families will learn where to start now.

1:00 Penny Johnson, The Center for Decision-Making Support

TOPIC:  Using Transition Services (MAPs, ECF Choices, Inclusive Higher Education Programs, etc.) to create future planning for high school students with disabilities after graduation.

2:00 Sharon Potter, Vocational Rehabilitation

TOPIC:  An in-depth look at Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)—two critical frameworks designed to bridge the gap between education and independent employment.

3:00 Penny Johnson, The Center for Decision-Making Support

TOPIC:  Understanding Decision-Making Supports (conservatorships, powers of attorney, special needs trusts, etc) and how to incorporate supported decision-making into the lives of students with disabilities.
