Why We Developed the Academy 

The leaders of Washington County Schools recognized the need for a program that would give college bound students/families an alternative to the traditional brick and mortar school. We desire to inspire the following in our students:

• Ownership in their educational needs and recognition that education isn't something that just happens to them.
• An understanding that education is their responsibility 
• A sense of accountability and control of their present and future.
• Possess an intrinsic desire to succeed academically and professionally

What is the Virtual Learning Academy?

The Virtual Learning Academy is a tuition free program which exceeds all requirements established by the Tennessee Department of Education for a high school diploma. Below are facts about our unique program:

• Courses include: core academic courses, foreign language, and elective courses.  
• Academic course requirements are on-line and delivered using a web-based management system which utilizes rich media, text, video segments, animation, and audio clips.
• The courses may be accessed 24/7 so students can work at their optimal learning time.
• Students must have reliable internet access, an active email account, and access to word processing and presentation software.
• Each student will have an individualized educational plan based on their needs and academic interests.
