Welcome to Coordinated School Health!

  • In 2000, Washington County Department of Education was privileged to be one of ten school systems to pilot the Coordinated School Health program. The goal of the program is to eliminate health-related barriers to learning so that teachers can teach and students can learn.  Efforts to meet this goal are conducted through an eight component model.  Each of the eight components addresses a particular aspect of the coordinated approach.  The components are:

    -Health Education

    -Health Promotion for Staff

    -Physical Education/Physical Activity

    -Counseling and Psychological Services

    -Health Services

    -Healthy School Environment

    -Nutrition Services

    -Student/Parent/Community Involvement.

By definition, all Coordinated School Health components work together to improve students' health and their capacity to learn through the support of families, communities and schools working together.
