Computer and Network Operations
The Technology Department is responsible for computer, network, security, and communications operations within the District.
The department oversees the entire spectrum of District computing needs, from network infrastructure and multimedia presentation systems to security. Operating over 30 Windows-based servers across the school system, the Technology Department ensures the smooth operation of its wide- and local-area networks. In partnership with Education Networks of America (ENA), the department will be upgrading its network infrastructure over the next two years in support of web-based and distance learning offerings. The department is also charged with the acquisition, deployment and maintenance of workstations and classroom presentation systems. Washington County currently has a 1:1 student-to-computer ratio; furthermore, it is continually expanding the number of SMART-technology multimedia classrooms in the system.
Technology Training
To maximize the effectiveness of hardware and software deployment, the department offers staff first-class, in-house training conducted by a SMART- and Microsoft-certified instructor. Our state-of-the-art training lab is located at the Asbury Family Resource Center.
Security and Communications Operations
The department assists in the safety and welfare of faculty, staff, and students by operating and maintaining all security and fire alarm systems, as well as over 250 cameras across the district. All cameras can be remotely accessed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to further ensure safety in our schools. Washington County utilizes a text message & email alert system to notify staff, families, and the community of important announcements such as school schedule changes or emergencies. Technology is also responsible for the District's telephones and intercoms.
