Mrs. Rachel Horn

My vision is to educate all students who enter my class on science practices and to help each student see the benefits of science and how it improves our society. By aligning my lessons to Tennessee Academic Standards in Science Education, I seek to provide students with the foundational knowledge to become the future scientists, engineers, technologists, and technicians of the world.

I have been a Boone faculty member since 2010 (go Blazers!) My favorite subject to teach is physics but astronomy is my favorite science. For my second job, I teach astronomy labs at East TN State University in the evening. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from ETSU in 2005 where I studied physics. My interests are teaching and family. I'm happily married with two kids (a son and a daughter) and two dogs (Jack and June).

Six students represented Daniel Boone High School at the 2020 regional Science Olympiad at ETSU on Saturday, March 7th. Hannah Boyd placed in all four of the events she entered, winning first place in Protein Modeling, third place in Detector Building, and fourth place in Designer Genes and Sounds of Music. Ethan Stout partnered with Hannah in Detector Building and Jacob Ogan partnered with her in Protein Modeling. Boone students went head to head with students from nine other private and city high schools such as Dobyns-Bennett, Maryville High school, and L & N Stem Academy. We are very proud of these students for representing Washington County and exemplifying the academic abilities of our finest STEM students.
