Welcome to 5th grade!

My name is Floyd Cheyne and I am the 5th-grade homeroom teacher this year.  I am excited to have the opportunity to educate your child this year.  I hope to make science both challenging and fun!  I was born and raised in Michigan (Go Blue!).  I have a wonderful wife who has lived in Washington County most of her life.  We have three boys; two who have graduated from high school and one who will graduate in 2019.  We have two cats and one dog.

This will be a very exciting year at Fall Branch.  This year I will be teaching 4th - 8th-grade science.  What makes this so exciting, we are also going to be working with new science standards from the State of Tennessee.

What does this mean for you and your students?  Not much really.  The state has moved a few things from one grade level to another.  You may notice that your student may be working on some science standards that used to be in other grades.

One other change is students are going to be encouraged to ask questions about what they are learning about.  Before the teacher would explain the information and then the students would see that worked out in a lab.  Now we may start with the lab and then learn as we go.  The idea behind this is that many times in the real world we do not always know the answers, so we learn as we go.

  • Every Friday all grades will have a Bell Ringer quiz.
