Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Andrea Burchette
Hello and welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! My name is Andrea Burchette and I will be your child's speech language pathologist this year at Boones Creek Elementary. I am excited to begin a new school year and I hope you and your family are excited too!
I have a Masters in Education and I hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). I am also licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education as a Speech Pathologist. I follow state and federal guidelines for placing and serving students with a disability in the area of speech and language disorders.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Email is generally the quickest way to contact me during the school day. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can reach me by phone through the main school number. You can always send a note with your son/daughter is that is easiest. I look forward to supporting the students, families and teachers of Boones Creek Elementary.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
Speech and Language Disorders and Diseases
When a person is unable to produce speech sounds correctly or fluently, or has problems with his or her voice, then he or she has a speech disorder. Difficulties pronouncing sounds, or articulation disorders, and stuttering are examples of speech disorders.
When a person has trouble understanding others (receptive language), or sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings completely (expressive language), then he or she has a language disorder. A stroke can result in aphasia, or a language disorder.
Both children and adults can have speech and language disorders. They can occur as a result of a medical problem or have no known cause. This is directly from the ASHA web site (www.ASHA.org).
