Mrs. Carmical's Kindergarten Class
All About Your Teacher
I graduated from Science Hill High School in 2000. Then, I attended ETSU and received a Bachelor of Science degree, minor in journalism, and a Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, PreK-4th grade. I learned a lot about education and myself by taking a year and a half to write, defend, and publish a thesis. This is my tenth year at Boones Creek Elementary and ninth year teaching Kindergarten. I love the energetic and exciting world of Kindergarten, and I am teaching the grade I always hoped to teach!
For enjoyment, I love traveling around the world and have experienced many countries so far on my journeys. My husband, daughter, and I visited several cities in Japan during April 2018. My husband lived in Japan for 11 years and is a freelance Japanese to English translator. Hopefully, our daughter and I can learn some Japanese words in the near future! I have traveled to China twice and spent three months there during the summer of 2007. My most eye opening excursion was during the summer of 2009, when I traveled with church friends to Kenya, where we lived in tents, in the bush, with an African tribe. We hope to continue traveling and gaining more insight into the different cultures that remind us of how different yet so alike we are as humans. In conclusion, I love to spend quality time with my husband, daughter, Jack Russell Terrier, family and friends, attend and serve at church, water ski, play tennis, snow ski, write, take photographs, swim, and lay on the beach! I love being around children and viewing the world from their perspective!
Thank you for reading with your child for at least 20 minutes every night and documenting the books in the home reading log. Reading tests will occur every three weeks, so thank you in advance for the time you take in helping your child master reading and spelling the popcorn words. When notified, baggie books go home on Mondays and will be returned on Fridays of every week. We take an October field trip to the Kingsport Fire Station and Warrior's Path State Park. Families are welcome to join us!
