Welcome to Second Grade!

  • Reading Logs & Homework

The students are required to read 25 books each year. I am asking each student to shoot for 30 books or more. Each student has a reading log and is required to document their reading for a grade. They can read these books at home or in class. I will be checking their progress throughout the year.

Also, each child is required to read independently in the classroom. This time will also be provided during Literacy Stations. At times, they will be asked to respond to their reading in their Reader's Notebook or on a graphic organizer. They do have an assigned nightly reading log found in their RED folder. The READ EVERY DAY Folder is a part of your child's nightly reading homework. After they feel comfortable reading this book on their own, they can come back to class and take the AR quiz to earn points for their reading AR goal.  By reading with your child as often as you can and asking them questions about their reading, you will promote and practice fluency and comprehension skills to support this reading journey.
