Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Rebecca Schweiker

This is my fourth year at Sulphur Springs and my second year teaching first grade. I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education with a Science Emphasis from Murray State University. I received my Masters Degree in Reading Education from ETSU. During my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach grades K-4 as well as RTI. Growing up I always wanted to be a teacher. My mom was a professor and I remember going into her college class and thinking how fun it would be to reach children like she did with her college students. I saw the impact she made in the lives of her students and some (even 20 years later) still reach out to her and they catch up on where life has taken them. I strive to be a teacher like that, one who is dedicated to her students not only inside but outside of the classroom. My goal is to give my students lots of tools and strategies they can use to be the best they can be. I absolutely love coming in every day and seeing the love of learning in my students. I am blessed with two children; a son who is 16 and loves to play lacrosse and weightlift; and a daughter who is 11 and loves to ride horses. We spend quite a bit of time at the barn and I enjoy every minute. I also have two dogs that are super funny and totally spoiled. If you ever need to reach me, please feel free to call me at 423-754-1140 or email me at

    Dear Parents and Students,

Hi! The weather has gotten so nice! I have been enjoying walking my dog in our neighborhood. I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy some of this nice weather. Please continue to read 20 minutes a day and keep working on Splash Math and Benchmark Universe. I am so proud of the students who have been reading to us each week. I can see how hard you have been working to read your book to the class.  I also wanted to remind you about our virtual field day on May 19, 2020. I think this will be super fun! I hope you guys can stretch out and enjoy yourself just like my dog Charlie is doing in the picture above. I hope you have a wonderful week and I look forward to our Zoom meeting tomorrow. We will have our librarian Mrs. Yarber join us as our special guest.

    (Boy do I miss you!)

    Dear Parents,

Hi! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I have updated my links on the left hand side of my page to include some fun sight word activities that are hands on and can be done with things found around the house. Please continue to read for 20 minutes a day and keep working on Splash Math, Teach Your Monster to Read, and Benchmark Universe. I love looking at how much progress your child is making on these sites! We had our second Zoom meeting last Tuesday and it was super fun! In our next reading, we will have more friends reading stories as well as our Art teacher join us for a fun activity. I can’t wait! As the weather is getting nice, you can have your child go outside and write about what they see. You could have them pick out a plant or animal, draw it, and then write some facts about it like what color it is, it’s shape, how it would feel, and what it eats. I would love to see any finished writings! I do miss coming to school every day, but I am so appreciative of what you are doing. I look forward to talking to you and your child each week and seeing how everyone is! I hope you all have a wonderful week!

  • Week of April 20-24, 2020

    Dear Parents,

Hi! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Our first Zoom was so fun! I am looking forward to our next one on Tuesday.  This week, I have uploaded an inspirational message from the teachers and staff at Sulphur Springs. Please check it out and show it to your child (you will find it below this message). I have also added links to our related arts teacher’s websites that you can find on the left-hand side of this page. On their websites they have a lot of fun things that your child can do. Please continue to read 20 minutes a day, work on Splash Math, Teach Your Monster to Read, and Benchmark Universe. When you child finishes reading a book, you can ask them:

    • Who were the characters?
    • Where did the story take place (setting)?
    • Where their photographs or illustrations?
    • Was the story real or make-believe?
    • Was there a problem in the story? If so, how did they resolve or solve the problem?
    • What happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story?

You can also have your child draw their favorite part and write about why it was their favorite part. They can also write about the sequence of events from the story. If they write about the sequence have the use the words “first,” “next,” “then,” and “last.” I hope you have a wonderful week and if you have any questions please email me at

    Week of April 13-17, 2020

    Dear Parents,

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend! I wanted to give you a few updates. I will be hosting our very first Zoom meeting on Tuesday, April 14 at 4:00 pm. I have sent you an email with a ID number and password to get on to the meeting. If you didn't receive the email, please let me know and I will resend it. I have had a few parents ask if the packets should be turned in. You can turn the packets in but it is not a requirement. If you want to turn them in, you can turn them into the school. There are tubs by the front entrance of the gym where you can turn them in by grade level. If you could have your child write their name and mine on the front that would be wonderful. We will check these periodically. Please remember that you do not have to do this but if you want to, I would be more than happy to check them. I have also added another link to the left hand side. This link is titled Letter and Short Word (CVC) Hopscotch. We do these in class and they can be done either inside or outside. I like them because it is an active way for students to review letter names, sounds, as well as blend letters together to make words. I have included a video as well as a list of materials for each activity. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  • Dear Parents,

During this time of school closure, we are working to continue our learning by giving you access to things that can be worked on from home. At the left of my home page, you can find different links you can click on to find different activities to do with your child until we return to school. This information will be updated periodically. Please read with your child for 20 minutes every day. Please have them practice reading books to you or even go on word hunts in the story. You can have them write the title of the book and then write the red words they found within the story. You can turn them into me when we get back for a special treat! Please check the website frequently for more updates and activities! If you need to contact me please email me at
