![]() Welcome Crockett Students! Welcome to English at David Crockett High School. If this is your first time visiting this page, you will find several very helpful links on your left. Parents and Students:
The Contact Mrs. Keys Page will send information directly to my email. I check my email everyday. This is the best way to contact me. The Assignment Page will help you keep up with all assignments. I update this everday. It will keep you up-to-date with my English class. Just click on the link for either English 9, Advanced English 9, English 10, or English 11/12 TR. The Vocabulary Page will give you a list of the vocabulary words for each week. Students are required to complete the vocabulary assignments as homwork. I have stated the directions on the vocabulary page. These pages are organized by grade level. Please choose the correct class.
The State of Tennessee Curriculum Standards Page will show you what English 9 and 10 students must learn before passing to the next grade. If you are an English 9 student, you will be held accountable for these standards when you take your End-of-Course test in May. If you are an English 10 student, you will be held accountable for these standards when you take the Gateway in May. You must pass both the End-of-Course and the Gateway to graduate. I suggest you pay attention in class because I will be covering all of these standards before the test in May. These standards are also designed to help you with the ACT test, which is an entrance exam for colleges as well as a new state mandated test that all 11th grade students must take. The Useful Links Page has a list of websites that I find very helpful such as websites to help with MLA documentation, sentence diagramming, and the writing process. I have also included a link to a dictionary that includes pronunciation of terms. The PowerPoints, Documents, and Notes Page will allow you to download PowerPoints, handouts, notes, etc. that we have used in class. This will help if you lose everything. The English Blog Page will allow you to blog on different topics. I will assign blogs throughout the year as extra credit. I have listed rules on the English Blog Page. You must follow these rules to receive extra credit. If you do not follow the rules, I will shut down the blog. This is your only chance for extra credit other than the Mercy Moments given in class. The About Mrs. Keys Page gives you some information on my educational background, family life, and interests. The School Calendar Page will show you upcoming events at David Crockett High School as well as any major due dates for projects such as the Shakespeare Research Project for English 10 and the Edgar Allan Poe Research Project for English 9. If you have any quesitons, please feel free to contact me. Students: We will be studying grammar, literature, and composition in my English class. If you are an upcoming freshman, you have not experienced this in middle school. Do not feel overwhelmed. We will work through it together. How to Pass Mrs. Keys' English Class:
**If you try you best, you will pass English.** Grading: Tests & Essays = 50% A = 93-100
