The ABC's of School Health: Attitude, Belief, and Commitment


 

Washington County Department of Education is one of ten counties in the state of Tennessee to be awarded a grant for a Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP). The A,B,C's of School Health, is funded through the Tennessee Department of Education as a result of recent legislation recognizing the need to address the health-related needs of students in our schools. The Coordinated School Health Improvement Act of 1999 provides funding for a coordinator and other personnel necessary to bring needed health services into each school site.

The goal of the program is to eliminate health-related barriers to learning so that teachers can teach and students can learn. Efforts to meet this goal are conducted through an 8-component model. Each of the eight components addresses a particular aspect of the coordinated approach. The components are:
