Open to students in grades 9-12 whose parents are not employed by John Hancock Financial Services. Students must compose an original essay of less than 1,000 words that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage. First-place winner receives a $5,000 cash award and $5,000 to grow in a John Hancock Freedom 529 College Savings Plan. Second place winner receives $1,000 cash and five finalists receive $500 each. Applicants to the AXA Achievement Community Scholarship must be United States citizens or legal residents; Current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States by Fall 2012. The Optimist Club is sponsoring an essay contest that could provide up to $6,000 in college scholarships. Interested students who are under the age of 19 should submit a 700-800 word essay (title, footnotes, and bibliography not included in word count) to Mrs. McCorkle by February 15. The essay topic is "How My Education id the Key to a Successful Future." Winners chosen at the local level will be submitted to the district level to compete for a $2,500 scholarship. District level winners will then proceed to Optimist International where award are as follows: First Place: $6,000; Second Place: $3,750; Third Place: $2,250. • Those eligible to apply are high school seniors, college freshman, sophomores and juniors who are either:
  • Children or spouses of full-time employees of companies that are members of TGCSA.  The employee must have been employed for at least two years as of January 1 of the year in which scholarships are awarded.
  • Part-time employees of companies that are members of TGCSA. The student must have been employed for at least six months as of January 1 of the year in which scholarships are awarded.
• Two types of TGEF Scholarships are awarded.
  • One-year awards ranging from $500 to $1,800 for graduating high school seniors and college students who are children of full-time employees or part-time student employees. 
  • There are also a number of special one and four-year scholarships of varying amounts that are awarded. Winners of one-year awards may reapply each year if they continue to be employed by firms that are members of TGCSA.
• Most awards may be used at any accredited non-profit college or university in the United States.  A scholarship recipient may transfer from one college to another and retain the award.

Each year Incight awards up to one hundred scholarships to students with disabilities, ranging in value from $500 to $2,500, who have demonstrated outstanding merit in giving back to the community and overcoming obstacles in order to pursue higher education. 

• In addition to providing financial support, Incight remains a valuable resource for our scholars throughout their college years, during the transition from high school to college, while seeking accommodations, and preparing students for post-graduate life entering the employment sector.
• Scholarship recipients are matched with an eMentor and are provided with internship placement experience as well.
• Applicants must have a documented disability and be attending college full time. Trade schools, community colleges and universities are included, as well as graduate programs.

Scholarship is presented to children of Law Enforcement or Fire personnel. A parent must be a full-time active duty employee of a police or sheriff's dept. or a full-time paid or volunteer member of a fire dept. Both these scholarships are offered by the Scottish Rite. Both are open to seniors with a GPA of 2.8 or higher and financial need. Applications are available on-line at www.scottishrite.org or in the counseling office. The Shepherd Scholarship is $1500 and the Sovereign Grand Commander's amount varies based on funding. Both scholarships are renewable and the applications must be postmarked by April 1.

Open to any high school student; students can earn a $1,000 schoolarship to the Tennessee public postsecondary school of their choice for designing the program cover for the 2013 Institute for CTE Educators. Open to Seniors who are U.S. Citizens or legal residents; Winners are not based on financial need; Relatives of AFSA staff or board may not enter. Students read the required "Fire Sprinkler Essay" and complete a ten-question, multiple-choice test on that essay. Students receive one entry per correct answer on the test for a drawing for a $2,000 scholarship (up to 10 entries). Students may only take the test one time. The Niswonger Scholarship is designed to benefit both the recipient and the community in which he or she lives. Scholars are not limited to a particular college or area of study. They are required to participate in community building activities and leadership training. In exchange for each year of financial support, recipients pledge to return to their home communities for at least one year of service in the career of their choice. The hope is that by enabling these students to study their passions and by cultivating their leadership abilities, they will return to their homes to be leaders in their professions and an inspiration and catalyst for future change.Two seniors are nominated by the principal based on academics, leadership, extra-curricular activities and community service. Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship applications are now available. 500 four-year awards will be given ranging from $1000 to $15000 per year. Eligible students will be seniors with financial need, demonstrated leadership and scholarship or academic achievement. Guaranteed APS

Entering freshmen with an ACT score of 28 or SAT score of 1240 or higher and a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be offered a Guaranteed APS.

To be eligible students must complete the admissions application process, including submission of the application for admission, application fee, high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores by December 15.

Competitive APS

To be considered, applicants generally rank 1 or 2 in their graduating class or score a minimum ACT Composite of 26 (or 1170 SAT) while earning a minimum high school grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The application deadline is February 15. Late applications will not be considered.

The APS award amount is $3000 annually ($1500 per semester). Recipients must maintain an overall and semester grade point average of 2.5, pass a minimum of 12 credits per semester, and fulfill a work requirement in order to renew the scholarship for subsequent terms.

Students selected as University Honors Scholars will receive scholarships that cover full tuition and fees, the cost of standard dormitory housing and meal plans, and a book allowance for four years.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: 29+ ACT (composite) or 1280+ SAT (math and reading only), 3.5 GPA (4.0 scale), evidence of community and leadership activities and commitment to pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree.

For students not meeting the above qualifications, ETSU also has several Honors-in-Discipline programs. These programs usually require a minimum score of 25 on the ACT or 1130 SAT and offers a tuition scholarship, depending on available funds.

Open to senior boys who will be attending ETSU; sponsored by the TN Gamma Chapter of Sigma Phi Episilon Fraternity this scholarship embodies the priniciples of a Balanced Man and seeks to recognize and reward those who strive to achieve balance and all-around excellence. Two one time scholarships of $1,000 and $500 will be awarded. Applications are available in the counseling office.

A $2,000-$5,000 renewable scholarship for seniors seeking at B.S. degree from the Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying and Digital Media at ETSU; students must have financial need; application information in the counseling office or by contacting Ruth Wilbanks at Wilbanks@etsu.edu.

Seniors interested in Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) with an ACT of 25 and a GPA of 3.5 or higher should ask Mrs. McCorkle about the MTSU Honors College, the Buchanan Fellowship, and other scholarships available to them. MTSU also offers a Biology Department scholarship to incoming freshmen majoring in Biology. It is based on an exam that will be given on April 5. Open to senior boys who will be attending Tennessee Tech University; sponsored by the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity this scholarship embodies the belief that a man should be a scholar, a gentleman, and an athlete. The selection will be based on the application, interviews, and through recruitment events in the fall. Two awards of $500-$250 will be given. Applications are available in the counseling office.

Students interested in The University of Tennessee-Knoxville--The Haslam Scholars Program has expanded their program to include a guaranteed $15,000 scholarship. The Scholars program seeks students with extraordinary achievements in their academic work and a demonstrated commitment to involvement and leadership in their schools and communities. To be considered for the program, each applicant must do the following:

This scholarship is sponsored by Sigma Phi Epsilon, but there is no obligation for winners to join Sigma Phi Epsilon or any other fraternity at UT. Open to Senior Boys attending UTK; award based on GPA, ACT, community involvement, and up to two interviews conducted on campus during the first two weeks of school in the fall.
