Assistant Principal - J.W. McKinney

I would like to introduce myself to those of you who do not know me. My name is John Wesley McKinney (J.W. for short), I grew up in Washington County, my wife Twana, currently teaches at David Crocket High School. I am a graduate of Daniel Boone High School. I have a B.S., M.Ed., and a School Leadership Certificate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I have a new addition to my family, a daughter who just turned 9 months old; Darcy Elizsbeth.

My philosophy of education:

Chance is not a game that should be played with any student's life-much less your child's. Rather than leave a student's school experience and the outcome of that experience to chance, I believe we have the obligation to understand a student's personal needs and to challenge him or her by meeting those needs intellectually, socially, and personally. I believe a high performing school is one that is academically excellent, developmentally responsive, and socially equitable. Some students have little problem finding a voice, while others struggle well into adulthood to find a productive voice. Both groups of students need help to appropriately develop that voice. By providing a variety of structured experiences in which students can be actively engaged, I believe we can address a student's need to achieve.

I am looking forward to working with the students and families of the community. I am an advocate of the concept that there is no greater investment than in the education of our children.

Thank you for your support,

J.W.McKinney
