David Crockett High School

David Crockett High School won the Regional Walmart - Coca Cola Competition among area schools for best Community Pep Rally/ Parade. The award was based on School Pride Presentation, Student Participation, and Community Participation. The school won $2,500.00- the top prize awarded for the competitions. They also gave Pioneer Parents 2 tickets to the Tennessee -Vandy Game and side line passes. We are very proud of all the staff, students and parents who worked to win this for DCHS.

Turkey Trot 2007 - Participation Award. November 22, 2007.  David Crockett had the highest number of competitors at the annual 5K Road Race & Family Fitness Walk for the 2nd year in a row.  We received a $1000 award which will benefit our Cross Country program.

DCHS Band

East Tennessee School Band & Orchestra Association (ETSBOA) recently held the annual All State-East Senior Band & Orchestra Clinic in Gatlinburg at the Park Vista Hotel.  Students selected from the DCHS Band program were:  Emily Thompson (clarinet), James Doyle (trombone), Allison Foster (baritone), and Cody Shell (tuba).   Over 350 high schools participated in this event.  Selection by competitive audition for All-State East is the highest level of achievement for instrumental students in East Tennessee schools.  These students are to be commended for their hard work and achievement.  

The annual East Tennessee State University High School Honors Band Festival was recently held at D.P. Culp University Center ballroom, hosted by the ETSU Band Department. This two-day event brought high school students from 33 East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina high schools who auditioned to be placed in one of two concert bands. Rehearsals occurred for a day and a half, culminating in the free public concert. Over 220 students participated in the festival. The students performed under the direction of Dr. Christian Zembower, ETSU director of bands, and guest conductor Dr. Frank Grzych, chair of the ETSU Department of Music. DCHS band students participating were:  Candice Smallman, Eva VanGinhoven, Emily Thompson, Racheal South, Jenny Alexander, Haleigh Broyles, Carl White, James Doyle, Chuck Morgan, Reilly Fox, Allison Foster, Anthony Holley, Zak Austin, Cody Shell, Chase Foster, Katy Beall, and Billy VanDelinder.

East Tennessee School Band & Orchestra Association (ETSBOA) recently held the annual All State-East Junior Band & Orchestra Clinic in Greeneville at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.  Students selected from the DCHS Band program were:  Anthony Holley, Reilly Fox, and Zak Austin.  Also selected from middle school's were Michelle Johnson - Jonesborough Middle School; Erica Gray - Lamar; Breanna Rhyne -West View; Justin Valentine - South Central.   Over 100 middle school and 9th grade high schools students participated.  The band clinic allows students to learn through performance with other students and directors from the area and region.  Congratulations on their hard work and achievement.

2nd Annual Trailblazer Band Bash on Saturday, October 13 at Daniel Boone High School.  The  Pioneer Band took First Place for "Best Music," "Best Visual," "Best Overall Effect," Best Percussion," "Best Color Guard," and First Place in Class II .  The 68 member band also took home "Band of the Day" from Groups I and II .  The DCHS Pioneer Band, under the direction of Mike Smith and Mike May, performed music from the movie "Grease," including We Go Together, Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, Hopelessly Devoted To You, and Hand Jive.


23rd Annual Appalachian Classic Band Festival on Saturday, October 20 at Sullivan Central High School.  The  Pioneer Band brought home Second Place for "Marching," and "Second Place in Class AA ."  The Pioneers competed with Pigeon Forge, Sullivan East and Unicoi County in Class AA division, with Pigeon Forge taking home first place. The DCHS Pioneer Band, under the direction of Mike Smith and Mike May, performed music from the movie "Grease," including We Go Together, Summer Nights, Greased Lightning, Hopelessly Devoted To You, and Hand Jive.

"Woody" Havener, DCHS Junior, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America.
Cheerleaders

The DCHS Cheerleading Squad took 1st Place in the Small Varsity Cheer division at the JAMfest Nationals.  The event took place at the Gatlinburg Convention Center on December 1-2, 2007.
