Accounting I

Prerequisite: Algebra I
Credit: 1

This course introduces concepts and principles based on a double-entry system of maintaining the financial records of a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. It includes analyzing business transactions, journalizing, posting and preparing worksheets and financial statements. Basic accounting principles taught.


Accounting II

Prerequisite: Accounting I
Credit: 1

This course is an advanced study of concepts, principles, and techniques used in keeping the financial records of a proprietorship, partnership, and corporation.  Departmental, management, cost, and not-for-profit accounting systems are explored. (offered by request)


Law for Teens (Business Law)

Prerequisite: None
Credit: 1/2

The student will discuss the Constitution and Bill of Rights as they relate to American legal systems.  Ethics, consumer protection, and domestic relation law will be discussed also. Discussions will focus on legal issues of greatest interest to teenagers.


Keyboarding

Prerequisite: None
Credit: 1/2 or 1

This course is designed to develop basic skills in operating the keyboard. The student learns the basic styles of letters, envelopes, and reports. Fee required.


Computer Applications

Prerequisites: Keyboarding
Credit: 1

This course is designed to develop computer technology skills.  Students will use a variety of software and hardware tools.

Microsoft Office Suite will be used for this class.

Administrative Management Systems

Prerequisite: Computer Applications
Credit: 1

This capstone course provides advanced training, including hands-on experience, for students pursuing a career in business. Skills developed in previous courses will be incorporated and enhanced through a multi-tasking environment. Topics studied include advanced software features, communications, problem solving, time management, leadership, and others.  Production and administrative skills are developed to meet industry's standards.


Financial Planning

Prerequisite: Algebra I
Credit: 1/2

This course is designed to develop skills in financial principles.  The students will discuss credit institutions and opportunities, financial recourses, and the effects on individuals as well as businesses. Ethical issues are also discussed in this class.


Introduction to Business Management

Prerequisite: None
Credit: 1/2

This course will develop a foundation in the many activities, problems, and decisions that are vital to business management as well as develop appreciation for the responsibility.  Topics covered include business organization, ethical and legal responsibilities, communication, decision-making, and others.


Criminal Justice

Prerequisite: Junior and Senior
Credit: 1

This course will explore legal issues and trends, as well as the court system, correctional system, probation, parole systems as well as other topics.  Career opportunities in the Criminal Justice field will be discussed.

Introduction to Programming

Prerequisite:  Algebra I (Suggested)
Credit:  1/2

This is a one-semester course introducing students to various programming environments.  The content may include any combination of the following programming or scripting environments:  Texas Instruments Graphing Calculator, HTML, Java, PowerPoint, Flash, and Adobe Premier.  Various applicable multimedia hardware and applications will also be introduced. Students will also be required to assist in several school-wide computer-related support activities as needs arise.
