What will I need to register my child for Kindergarten? |

You will need a copy of your child's birth certificate and a "Tennessee Immunization Certificate." The "Tennesse Immunization Certificate" can be obtained at your child's doctor's office or at your local health department. A physical examination is also required for entrance into Kindergarten. |

If your child is running a fever of greater than or equal to 100.4 degrees, he/she should not attend school. Your child may return to school after he/she has been fever-free for at least 24 hours. |

What should I do if my child has lice? Do I notify the school nurse? |

A |
You should contact the school nurse as soon as possible. You may be able to obtain medication for treatment from your school nurse. When your child returns, you should accompany your child while his/her head is checked. |

Our schools need school nurses simply because healthy children learn better! With a Coordinated School Health Program barriers to learning are lessened and students are able to learn more effectively. |

How can I contact my child's school nurse? |

Any school nurse can be reached by telephone at their assigned school, however, if the matter is not urgent, just fill out our Contact Form located on this website. Your email will be forwarded to an RN Supervisor who will address your issue within a timely manner. |

If you are registering your child in a Tennessee school for the first time, you will need a copy of your child's birth certificate and a "Tennessee Immunization Certificate." Your child will also need a physical examination. You must have ALL completed BEFORE you can register your child. |

Is the Meningitis vaccine required for school-aged children? |

Tennessee state law requires the Department of Education to inform parents on a yearly basis concerning the risks of meningococcal disease, however a meningitis vaccine is NOT required for any school-aged child at this time. Meningitis vaccine is a recommended immunization for children 11 to 12 years of age. Talk with your child's doctor at his/her next visit if you have any further questions. |
